SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Consultant Agreement for Dr. Karen Mumford to Conduct the Evaluation of the School District of Hillsborough County’s School Choice Program (Information and Technology Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The consultant will perform the duties necessary to evaluate the Choice Program in the School District of Hillsborough County including, but not limited to, providing historical and current data related to the program. The evaluation will fulfill state and federal grant requirements and will include the 2005-06 United States Department of Education Annual/Status Choice Evaluation and the Florida Department of Education Mentor Grant Evaluation. Qualitative and quantitative student data will be collected and analyzed. Additionally, parent satisfaction through targeted items on the Whole School Effectiveness Survey will be analyzed for each year of implementation. A detailed list of tasks is on file in the Department of Assessment and Accountability.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

District Goal 5: The district will eliminate the FCAT achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind. Critical Success factor 5c: Design and implement program scheduling to meet the remediation and enrichment needs of students.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

The expense of $40,000 is funded from CHOICE grant funds.
