SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve a Resolution in favor of providing the increased financial support promised for No Child Left Behind.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Congress of the United States has passed several major pieces of legislation relating to K-12 public education. Two of the most far reaching are the "No Child Left Behind Act" and the "Individuals with Disabilities Education Act." Each of the laws have placed significant new responsibilities upon the school district. Each was supposed to be accompanied by sufficient funds to pay for the legal requirements. Neither law has been funded at the promised level and each is falling further behind because of budget adjustments that have neither kept pace with inflation nor met the standards established with the law. The resolution asks members of Congress to affirmatively vote to renew the appropriate level of additional investments promised after the passage of the "No Child Left Behind Act."
