There is an urgent need to build additions at Brandon and Durant High Schools to alleviate the overcrowding caused by the growth and the reduced capacity in the eastern part of the county due to the class-size reduction amendment. Each project will consist of 24 new classrooms plus 2 student toilets, providing 600 additional student stations. The same design will be used for both schools. Appointment of an architect and construction manager will allow the projects to be fast-tracked and ensure completion in January 2007.

We are recommending that the Board appoint the following firms to provide the necessary design and construction services for each project. These specific firms just completed a renovation project at Brandon High School and are familiar with all site issues including utilities and as-builts.
1. Reynolds, Smith & Hills, Inc. at a fixed fee of $174,000 for each facility.
2. Christiano Construction Company, Inc. at a fixed fee of $116,000 for each facility.
