EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This Partnership Agreement between the More Health Educational Program and School District of Hillsborough County will provide services through Steps to a Healthier Hillsborough Program, focusing on under-served populations from February 22 to September 21, 2006. This initiative is a component in collaboration with the Hillsborough County Health Department to support intervention activities. The issues of diabetes and obesity will be presented to students in the following schools: Hillsborough and Middleton High Schools; Ferrell, Memorial, and Van Buren Middle Schools; and B. T. Washington, Broward, Desoto, Edison, Foster, Kenly, Lee, Robles, and Seminole Elementary Schools. All of these schools are Title I schools within the Steps intervention area with high minority and low socio-economic populations. The More Health Educational Program will provide services that impact nutrition and physical activity. Evaluation will be based upon decreased BMI (body mass index) rates and increased breakfast participation.

Goal 5 The district will eliminate the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind.
