EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The process for selection of flexibility instructional materials for the District's HEALTH SCIENCE AND PUBLIC SERVICE EDUCATION Program has been completed. The recommended titles to be used by the Firefighting/First Responder programs are shown on the attached memorandum by Cosette G. Whitmore, Ph.D., Supervisor, Health Science and Public Service Education. The textbooks listed on the attached memorandum will be the primary textbooks.
The textbook committee studied and recommended the instructional materials according to District guidelines (Policy 4.16) which include:
- District textbook selection committee is trained and reviews sample materials submitted.
- Committee evaluates submissions using the Florida Department of Education instructional materials evaluation packet.
- Committee rank orders all submissions evaluated.
- Committee recommends two choices per subject for teacher use. In the event that two choices are not available, teachers will use the one submission being recommended by district committee.
- An official ballot is prepared and distributed to all teachers using sample sets of instructional materials selected for possible adoption.
- Teachers vote for their top choice and send sealed ballots in prelabeled envelopes to the Supervisor of Instructional Materials.
