Adoption of Proclamation - Youth Art Month, March 2006 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Art Educators National Conference has designated March 2006 as Youth Art Month. Attached is a proclamation that the School District of Hillsborough County will observe the month of March 2006 as Youth Art Month.

The theme for this year’s activities is “Art Education on The Leading Edge” with the focus on visual arts programs that cultivate student, parent, and community learning. Art programs approach academic concepts from a unique point of view. Art communicates through a language of images and experiences with which students connect and enjoy. As art teachers share techniques and skills, they make learning an adventure for their students.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 5 - The district will close the FCAT achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: No)

Activities for Youth Art Month are integrated into the standard curriculum with no additional cost to the district.
