Approve Additional School Board Meeting in September to Comply with the Truth in Millage (TRIM) Deadlines

On November 22, 2005, the Board adopted a meeting calendar, subject to amendment, that includes a meeting on September 12, 2006. The Board historically has met on the first and third Tuesday of each month, but adopted a calendar for a meeting on the second Tuesday because of conflicts with primary elections scheduled for September 5, 2006. However, the Board’s year end financial reports are required to be to the Department of Education, in Tallahassee, Florida on Monday, September 11, 2006. To insure those financial reports are presented and approved by the Board in a timely way, it is recommended that the September 12, 2006, meeting be moved to Thursday, September 7, 2006. This would also move the final budget hearing for the 2006-07 budget to be heard on September 7, 2006.

The requirements for public hearings are prescribed by law and include the requirement for the Board to have its final budget hearing not earlier than 65 days after the certification of tax rolls and not later than 80 days after certification of tax rolls. By conducting the final budget hearing on Thursday, September 7, 2006, the Board will be in compliance with the Truth in Millage (TRIM) deadlines and will be in compliance with the requirements for filing the year end financial reports for the Department of Education.

In addition the April 4, 2006, meeting will begin at 6 p.m. to accommodate the reception for the National Merit Scholars to be held at Rampello Downtown Partnership School from 5:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.
