SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approval of Spot Surveys for Brandon and Durant High Schools

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Florida Statute 1013.31 requires that each School Board conduct an educational plant survey at least every five years. The Board approved the District’s current survey on May 4, 2004. The survey recommends new facilities as well as additions, remodeling, and renovations at existing sites.

As exceptions to the survey recommendations arise, the Board is required to submit a “spot survey” to the Department of Education for each facility. Spot surveys are now required to construct 24 classrooms at Brandon and Durant High Schools. The additional classrooms will add 600 student stations to each school.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Critical Success Factor 6.a.8 – Provide sufficient student stations to ensure uninterrupted student learning and data gathering as measured by District Operational Goals plan.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

The construction budget for each school is $2,865,200. Both projects are funded from Community Investment Tax 2006 revenue.
