SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Contract with The Florida Orchestra for Youth Concerts at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, $9,000 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Youth Concerts are provided free of charge to students in Grades 4 and 5 at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center. They will take place on six dates throughout the school year. Two concerts a day will be presented.

Students are prepared for this experience with a Teacher/Student Guide. The programs are designed in accordance with the elementary music curriculum and the Sunshine State Standards and are an integral part of the students’ music education. Cross-curricular connections include Reading, FCAT Writing, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Economic Education.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 5 - The district will eliminate the FCAT achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

Funds of $9,000 are included in the divisional general operating fixed budget for Curriculum and Instruction.
