Approve Agreement for Technical Services with Performance Learning Systems, Inc. for Leadership Training for Technical Career Education Department Heads, June 15-16, 2006 - $7,000 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

An Agreement for Technical Services has been developed with Performance Learning Systems, Inc. to conduct a two-day Leadership Training for 50 Technical and Career Education Department Heads and Subject-Area Leaders on June 15-16, 2006.

Training will be provided to Technical and Career Education (TCE) department heads and subject-area leaders in mentoring and coaching new teachers as well as teachers identified as "in need of assistance." Training will include how to provide a welcoming and coaching environment to new teachers; fostering a supportive, professional environment; balancing leadership and mentoring roles; challenges of leadership, accountability, and evaluation. Provider will also facilitate development of a TCE support model that will provide a consistent framework for supporting new teachers to be implemented by Department Heads August 2006.

Funds of $7,000 are available in the district special revenue/federal programs budget from the Perkins Secondary Federal Grant, Project 1050.

June 2007. Assessment will be based on increased retention of new teachers and a survey of new teachers reporting satisfactory support by department heads and supervisory staff for the school year.
