SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Extension of Implementation Agreement with the Center for Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Program, Fourth Year - Extension to June 30, 2007 - $8,085 (Middle and Secondary Education)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

On May 20, 2004, the School Board approved the initial agreement with Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Center for Plant City High School and Marshall and Tomlin Middle Schools. An extension to the agreement with AVID Center has been developed for the 2006/2007 school year to continue the program operation at these three schools. The agreement outlines member roles, materials, training, and fees associated with the AVID Center. The AVID program supports students who potentially will be the first generation to attend college. A summary of the program is attached.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 5 - The district will close the FCAT achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

The annual membership fee of $8,085 ($2,695 per school) is included in Middle and Secondary Education general operating budgets.
