SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

APPROVAL OF EXPENDITURE FOR MATCHING FUNDS PROJECTS

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The matching funds program was established in 2001-02 by the Superintendent to assist schools and their partners in raising funds for construction projects by matching dollars in any amount up to $50,000. On January 22, 2004, a committee composed of representatives from the County Council PTA, elementary, middle and high school principals, students, teachers, and the Facilities Division met to review the procedures approved by the Board on October 15, 2002. Revisions to program procedures were recommended and approved by the Board on March 9, 2004, and were effective beginning the 2004-05 fiscal year.

Walker Middle School has requested District matching funds to complete their project budget for renovation of school lockers. Williams IB Middle Magnet School has requested District matching funds to complete their project budget for renovation of their school marquee. Authorization is subject to submittal of architectural and engineering documents for permit approval.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

Total matching funds expenditure for Walker Middle School is $23,162. Total matching funds expenditure for Williams IB Middle Magnet School is $2,438. Expenditures will be funded as follows: 50% by the school and 50% from 2 Mill matching funds, not to exceed $50,000. Funds in the amount of $513,633.48 remain available for additional projects from the Matching Funds allocation.
