SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Continuation Grant Application to the Florida Department of Education, and if Approved, Accept Funds for Florida Instructional Materials Center for the Visually Impaired, $2,193,979 (Exceptional Student Education)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
As defined by Florida Statute, the Florida Instructional Materials Center for the Visually Impaired (FIMC-VI) will produce, distribute, recirculate and house specialized materials for blind and visually impaired students enrolled in Florida’s schools. Hillsborough District has operated FIMC-VI as the fiscal agent for the past 33 years. Approval of the Grant Application will allow for the continuation of activities to provide Braille, large print and recorded/digital textbooks and specialized equipment statewide.
ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)
Goal 1 – The percentage of students scoring at Level 3 or higher on FCAT reading will increase a minimum of 5 percentage points.
Goal 2 – The percentage of students scoring at Level 3 or higher on FCAT mathematics will increase a minimum of 5 percentage points.
Goal 3 – Student performance on FCAT science will increase a minimum of 5 percentage points.
Goal 4 – The percentage of students achieving a score of 4.0 or higher on FCAT Writing will increase a minimum of 5 percentage points.
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)
Funds for this item are included in the divisional special revenue/federal programs budget. The Project is financed by Federal IDEA funds ($1,701,154), State General Revenue funds ($192,825) and State General Revenue/Instructional Materials’ funds ($300,000) provided by the Florida Department of Education, Bureau of Exceptional Education and Student Services.
EVALUATION
Performance evaluation measures are determined by the Florida Department of Education. The completed annual state performance report will be completed in December 2007. The results of the evaluation will be shared with all stakeholders.
