SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Grant Application to the Florida Department of Education, and if Approved, Accept Funds, 2006/2007 (Exceptional Student Education)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Federal entitlement grants for Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) must be submitted annually. The funding purpose is to ensure that all children with disabilities ages 3 through 21 have the right to a free appropriate public education that emphasizes special education and related services designed to meet their individual needs and prepare them for employment and independent living. The funding priorities are to supplement the excess costs associated with providing special education and related services to students with disabilities. This grant application has two sections; IDEA, Part B - $36,774,071 and Preschool Children with Disabilities - $802,664. Summaries of these grant proposals are attached.

If approved, grant funds will be included in the divisional special revenue/federal programs budget. IDEA - $36,774,071 and Preschool Children with Disabilities - $802,664

EVALUATION

Performance evaluation measures are determined by the Florida Department of Education. The completed annual state performance report will be completed in January 2007. The results of the evaluation will be shared with all stakeholders.
