SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Recommend that the Board accept the report from the Council of the Great City Schools (CGCS) concerning the District’s Purchasing and Transportation Departments.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

In December 2005, teams of senior executives from districts that are members of the CGCS came to the School District to analyze the operations of the School District’s Procurement and Transportation Departments. The visiting committees have completed their analysis and submitted reports of their findings and recommendations. The recommendations for each department include redesign of internal business processes, analysis of the human resources in each department, and other specific steps that the committees believed would improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the departments. Copies of the reports are attached. As recommended in the reports RFPs will be issued to solicit proposal from appropriate expert consultants to help to implement the major findings of the reports.

$30,000 from non-recurring operating budget funds for the CGCS studies ($15,000 for each study).
