SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Agreement for Services with St. Joseph's Hospital for a Community-based Training Transition Program for High School Exceptional Students, 2006/2007 (Exceptional Student Education)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Exceptional Student Education (ESE) community-based training program is designed to provide realistic work experiences for ESE high school students, ages 18-22, with supervision by a district teacher.

An Agreement for Services has been developed with St. Joseph's Hospital to provide training opportunities in 2006/2007 for 12-15 high school students. The program includes a balance of classroom instruction emphasizing functional skills, integrated social and recreational activities, and career experience opportunities that encourage participation of other support departments such as general maintenance, food service, landscaping, and clerical. The District provides the students, an instructor, a paraprofessional, transportation, and additional support as identified. The ESE young adults benefit from real-world experiences by interacting with non-disabled peers in a postsecondary setting.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 5 - The district will close the FCAT achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

This Agreement for Services establishes the responsibilities of St. Joseph's Hospital and the district for this community-based training program. This program generates FTE funds of $78,184.36 to cover the total cost to the district.

EVALUATION

July 31, 2007 - Students participating in the program will be assessed using specific transition assessments.
