SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

FENCING AND SECURITY FOR 43 CAMPUSES
AWARD OF CONTRACT

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This project is being planned by the architecture and engineering firm The Robinson Green Berretta Corporation (RGB). Facilities Division developed this project at the request of the Administration Division, to enhance security and safety at forty-three school sites.

The project was advertised and bids received. Subsequent to receipt of bids, staff determined that five of the forty-three projects should be deferred, for reasons indicated on the detailed bid sheet in the attachment. Additionally, staff negotiated with the low bidder for lower prices at three sites, with the revised pricing also shown on the detailed bid sheet. Consequently, award of projects at thirty-eight sites, at the total price of $564,829 as shown on the detailed bid sheet, is recommended. Needed work at the remaining five sites will be accomplished following additional planning.

The project is to be funded using a portion of minor capital outlay funds provided annually to Area Directors. Several projects include options for ornamental or vinyl-coated fencing. These enhancements will be funded using either additional minor capital outlay funding from the respective Area Director, or school generated funds.

The low bidder, Smith Fence, is recommended. The starting date will be August 21, 2006, with a projected completion date of November 21, 2006, at 92 calendar days.
