Florida School Boards Association – 2007 Legislative Platform Proposals

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Yearly, the Florida School Boards’ Association (FSBA) requests input from school boards throughout the state regarding possible legislative priorities for inclusion into the FSBA Legislative Platform. Based on positions taken by the Board, staff recommends priorities for approval. The Board then endorses, changes, or deletes these recommendations or directs staff to develop new or additional ones.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

  1. Modify law related to alternate charter school authorizers to clearly delineate responsibilities.
  2. Move Workforce funding to the K-12 budget at the state level and maintain as a categorical.
  3. Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Guaranteed Allocation Growth Factor – Provide a formula for growth in student population and program costs for students funded by the ESE guaranteed allocation.
  4. Oppose any proposed legislation that would mandate who could provide pictures for high school yearbooks.
  5. Modify the Jessica Lunsford Act to ensure student safety with reasonable measures.
  6. Move the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) to the end of April or later.
