2005-2006 Senior Scholarship Survey Results

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Senior Scholarship Survey was developed by the Senior High School Guidance Department Heads and the Department of Assessment and Accountability. This survey is administered through each high school’s Guidance Department at the end of the school year. The survey asks questions about scholarships that were offered and accepted and the duration of the scholarship. Scholarships are classified as academic, athletic, performance arts, and “other.” Graduating seniors were offered first year scholarships that exceeded $34 million, and accepted first year scholarships valued at approximately $21 million. The value over the life of these scholarships is approximately $82 million. This is an increase of $3.2 million for first year accepted scholarships over the previous year. Academic scholarships increased by approximately $3 million. Athletic scholarships decreased slightly, while Performing Arts and other scholarships increased. The total Bright Futures Scholarships accepted for the first year as reported by students is $8.7 million. Black students have the highest average scholarship accepted ($7,085) although there was a slight decrease in the average amount from the previous year. The other racial/ethnic groups reflected an increase in the average scholarship.
