Recognition for General Electric (GE) for Sponsorship of Preparing New Principals Program Focus Groups
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
General Electric, through the sponsorship of the Hillsborough Education Foundation, provided the services of Jennifer Lewis and Kellie McCarthy, two of their trained facilitators to conduct focus group meetings with school administrators. The purpose of the focus groups was to identify the revisions needed for the Preparing New Principals Program (PNP).
Jennifer Lewis worked with Lynn Wade, Supervisor of Management Training, in collecting background information and conducting the focus groups.
The process used provided a beneficial methodology for identifying areas needing change and a process for systematically implementing the needed changes.
Some of the changes for the PNP Year I Cadre for 2006-2007 are as follows:
- Area Directors will meet with the PNP participants and supervising principals at the end of the program to validate the accomplished practices relating to the State Standards.
- The Saturday seminars will change from the lecture format to small groups involved in solving case studies based upon the State Standards.
- The Principal Activities that are based upon the State Standards are being revised.
- A group of mentors, with identified areas of expertise, will be available to assist PNP participants.
