SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Appointment of Supervisor for District Supplemental Educational Services (DSES) (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Hillsborough County Public Schools has been chosen by the United States Department of Education (USDOE) to participate in a pilot program to increase student participation in the tutoring program offered under the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). This program, know as DSES (District Supplemental Educational Services) provides tutoring services to economically disadvantaged students who attend schools that did not make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)(see attached list). The Supervisor will provide curriculum guidance to 62 elementary, middle and senior high schools. The daily monitoring of student assessments and parent satisfaction with the service their child is receiving will also be a part of the assigned duties.

Goal 5 - The District will eliminate the achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

All expenses for this program will be paid from Title I funds.

EVALUATION

An annual evaluation is conducted as part of our local and federal requirements.
