Approve Letter of Engagement with Carlton Fields for Legislative Consulting Services - $35,000 (Government Relations)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The 2007 Legislative Session will begin two years of new leadership. The Florida Senate will have a new President and the Florida House will have a new Speaker. Additionally, Florida will have a new Governor. Historically, education and education reform are top issues for Florida’s legislative and executive branch. Because of the varying issues that impact education, additional technical assistance is needed by the School District in dealing with state and federal officials.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

The School District of Hillsborough County will be billed a total of $35,000 by Carlton Fields Government Consulting. This is payable $5000 monthly December 31, 2006, through June 30, 2007. In addition, the School District will be responsible for customary charges for expenses, if any, related to this engagement and for disbursements incurred on behalf of the School District.
