SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Agreement for Technical Services with DKH Consulting Services, Inc. for Assistance in Development of the Federal Magnet School Assistance Program Grant Application - $10,400 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Magnet School Assistance Program grant applications are highly competitive. In order to ensure a high quality grant document for 2007/2008, 2008/2009, and 2009/2010, (approximately $9 million) an Agreement for Technical Services has been developed with DKH Consulting Company, Inc. to provide guidance, review, and feedback on the text narrative and the evaluation design. Deidra Honeywell, Ph.D., President of DKH Consulting Services, Inc. is uniquely qualified to provide assistance through her experience with writing competitive grants and developing evaluation designs. Dr. Honeywell has conducted project evaluations in 10 states and has 15 years of grant writing experience that resulted in more than $60 million awards. It is critical to be competitive for this grant document in order to continue the quality of the district magnet program.

The grant plan includes: (1) significantly revising Lincoln Elementary School from a Technology Magnet to an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program; (2) opening high school Advanced Placement programs; and (3) working in partnerships with the community to open Urban Teaching Academies. The benefit of receiving this grant ensures that the District continues to strengthen the magnet program and provide excellent academic choices for families.
