SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

GARY ADULT HIGH SCHOOL
APPROVAL OF PURCHASE AND SALE AGREEMENT

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

In August 2005, the Board declared Gary Adult High School as surplus property. Two separate closed bids were conducted by staff with several bids being submitted, but only two brought forward for approval. Both of these offers failed to close due to unacceptable contingencies or overt rejections on the part of the purchasers due to Board contract stipulations.

The Board conducted an open bid stipulating no contingencies on October 12, 2006, and received four offers. A Purchase and Sale Contract with the highest bid of $331,000 was submitted for Board approval on December 16, 2006, but was deferred until the next regular Board meeting.

The potential purchaser of this site, who is the chairman of a private day school, has plans to construct a swimming pool and basketball courts with locker rooms for lease or sublease as practice facilities for private schools or community teams without such means.
