Approve Agreement for Technical Services with Performance Learning Systems, Inc. for the Elementary Education Dr. Kevin McCarthy Accomplished Teaching Academy, June 5-8, 2007 - $7,000 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

An Agreement for Technical Services has been developed with Performance Learning Systems, Inc. for the services of Stephen Barkley to design, develop, and train high performing teachers through the Accomplished Teaching Academy scheduled for June 5-8, 2007, at Jefferson High School.

Mr. Barkley will train new and returning teachers on current trends and techniques in delivery of instruction. He will conduct a session on Building Professional Learning Communities on June 6, 2007, and will follow with Knowledge of Subject Matter on June 7, 2007. Approximately 400 teachers will participate and will develop action plans for improving student achievement that will be implemented during the 2007/2008 school year. These plans and their implementation will be shared with other teachers during the Accomplished Teaching Academy in June 2008.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 5 – The district will close the FCAT achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

Funds of $7,000 are included in the divisional budget of Curriculum and Instruction, Elementary Education, (Project 4502.) Funds cover the cost of training and materials for 400 K-12 teachers.

EVALUATION

October 2007. Teachers will be surveyed to collect qualitative data about the sessions they attended to capture relevant information about each day’s activities. The survey results are presented in a report each October following the professional development experience.
