Approve Agreement for Technical Services with Patricia Ortiz-Thompson for the Mathematics and Science Partnerships Grant, “Math Matters and Digital Math” - $35,628 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The $1,284,500 Mathematics and Science Partnership Grant, “Math Matters and Digital Math” project will be implemented for district K-12 mathematics teachers between February 2, 2007, and August 30, 2007. Through collaboration between the University of South Florida and district mathematics experts, high-quality staff development will be designed and delivered that will enhance teacher understanding of mathematics concepts that will support classroom instruction in Florida’s revised Mathematics Sunshine State Standards. Teams comprised of personnel from the University of South Florida and the district will design and deliver training to 1,000 district K-12 mathematics teachers.
An Agreement for Technical Services has been developed with Patricia Ortiz-Thompson to serve as program manager to perform the following:
- coordination of staff development design and implementation between collaborative partners
- management of communication between all stakeholders
- set up and delivery of staff development for 1,000 K-12 teachers
- oversight of all instructional activities
- coordination of evaluation efforts
- coordinate communication with district mathematics supervisors and their staffs, Staff Development, and the Grants and Research Office, and
- ensure that the project is carried out with fidelity, on time, and within the project budget.
ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)
Goal 2 - The percentage of students scoring at Level 3 or higher or FCAT mathematics will increase a minimum of five percentage points.

Funds of $35,628 are included in the district special revenue/federal programs budget through the Mathematics and Science Partnership Grant, Project 1150.
