SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Disposal of Portable Classrooms That are Beyond Economical Repair (BER) or No Longer Meet Standards for Student Occupancy (Business Office)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

School Board Policy provides authority to the Board to sell, transfer or dispose of any real or tangible property that is declared by the Board to be unnecessary or unsuitable for district purposes. The portables on the attached list do not meet standards, or have been declared Beyond Economical Repair by the Maintenance Department and no longer serve a district purpose. The Safety Office will evaluate the "Beyond Economical Repair" portables for environmental concerns and should they pass the inspection, they will be made available as surplus or sold at auction. Portables that do not pass the safety inspection will be demolished.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

The demolition cost of a portable ranges from $3,500 to $5,000, depending on the type and environmental concerns. The cost of demolition is paid from the Maintenance Portable Budget. Any entity accepting a surplus portable that has passed the safety inspection will be responsible for all moving and associated costs. The monies received for any portable sold at auction will be deposited into the General Fund. The Fixed Asset file will be reduced by a netbook value of $184,445.42.
