Approve the Cancellation of the Contract Between Hillsborough County Public Schools – Early Childhood School Readiness Programs and Wright’s Wonderland of Learning Child Care Center (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The contract with Wright’s Wonderland of Learning Child Care Center is to be cancelled effective April 1, 2007, due to provider’s breach of contract by failing to earn a passing score on the Environment Rating Scale, which assesses quality standards and is a requirement for maintaining contract eligibility. The term of this contract is July 1, 2006, through June 30, 2007. Due to payment schedules set for the first of the month, this contract was cancelled effective April 1, 2007.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 5 – The District will eliminate the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

The total funding of $171,000 was to be used to provide education and care for approximately 45 children from eligible low-income families. The federal/state grant funds are channeled to the District from the Florida Office of Early Learning and the Early Learning Coalition of Hillsborough County. Due to the cancellation of this contract, the remaining funds of $66,148 will be made available to providers assuming the care of the children currently enrolled at Wright’s Wonderland of Learning Child Care Center.
