Approve Agreement for Technical Services with Vinicio Aguero for District Based Mentoring of New Teachers to the District (Information and Technology)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The District is committed to providing support systems for new teachers. This mentor program is part of the teacher induction process provided for new teachers in the District. Mentors attend informal training during which the philosophy and expectations of the mentoring process as they relate to the 12 Florida Educators' Accomplished Practices. Having this support system improves the effectiveness of new educators.

The mentor will work with new teachers at Armwood High School. He will provide up to 16 hours per week of face-to-face mentoring, maintain a log of mentoring activities as they relate to the 12 Accomplished Practices, model best practices for the new teachers, and recommend effective veteran teachers for the new educators to observe. The mentor will also support the school administrative staff with the Preparing New Educators Program.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

Staff Development funds will provide $4,336.00 for these services.

EVALUATION

The mentor will provide feedback to the district staff in order to enhance the new teacher district-based mentor program.
