Approve Agreement for Technical Services with the University of South Florida for Mathematics Teacher Training - $189,752 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Mathematics faculty at the University of South Florida (USF) will develop mathematics teacher training workshops to enhance teacher understanding of mathematics concepts that support classroom instruction in the revised Florida Mathematics Sunshine State Standards. Training will be provided to approximately 1,000 K-12 mathematics teachers May 29 through June 29, 2007, at Folsom Elementary School, Burnett Middle School, and the University of South Florida. As a result of this training, select teachers in this Train-the-Trainer program will provide training to mathematics teachers at their individual school sites.

An Agreement for Technical Services has been developed with the University of South Florida for a three-phase project which involves collaboration between USF mathematicians and district expert teachers to:

  1. Design appropriate staff development components,
  2. Deliver facilitator training to teachers who will provide the teacher training to Hillsborough County teachers, and
  3. Assist in mathematics training and follow-up to approximately 1,000 district K-12 teachers.
USF is providing the services of expert mathematicians to partner with district teachers in all project phases.
