SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve the Retroactive Agreements for Technical Services for District Based Mentors through the Preparing New Educators Program (Information and Technology Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The District is committed to providing support systems for new teachers. This mentor program is part of the teacher induction offered to new teachers in the District. Mentors will attend meetings on best practices in mentoring and expectations during the mentoring process, as well as the Florida Educators 12 Accomplished Practices. Having this support system improves the effectiveness of new educators.

The mentors work at various Title I schools with their new teachers. The mentors provide 16 hours per week of face-to-face mentoring, maintain a log of mentoring activities as they relate back to the 12 Accomplished Practices, log hours, and model best practices for the new teacher or suggest model teachers for the new educators to observe. The District Based Mentors will also be attending a six hour workshop on closing activities, program evaluation, and exploring leadership.

Agreements for Technical Services have been prepared for the attached list of District Based Mentors. These mentor activities have been conducted during the month of April and will continue through the end of the school year. These activities had been previously provided under a contract funded from Title I resources.
