SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Agreement for Technical Services with Nova Southeastern University for Career Academy Teacher Training - $12,000 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
An Agreement for Technical Services has been developed with Nova Southeastern University, who manages the administrative processes of the National Career Academy Coalition (NCAC), to train and facilitate teacher production of each Career Academy's team vision and mission statement, student programming guides, integrated curriculum projects, school year calendar, business partnerships, marketing plan, parent involvement plan, teacher teamwork methods and expectations, and student academic support structures. Training will be provided for a total of 12 days as follows:
- Armwood High School, Career Academy of Converging Technology, Matchmaker grant, 3 days;
- Wharton High School, Academy of Culinary Operations, Matchmaker grant, 1 day;
- East Bay High School, Freshman Academy; Career Academy of Natural Resources; Academy of Professional Services; Academy of Fine Arts; and Academy of Communication & Technology; Smaller Learning Community grant, 4 days;
- King High School, Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) Career Academy of Robotics and Multimedia Design, SUCCEED Florida Career Academy grant, 4 days;
Career Academy implementation is an integral component of the District’s emphasis on increasing student achievement and providing students with relevant career pathway majors based on the integration of rigorous core academic and Career and Technical Education programming. A Career Academy is a small learning community of students and teachers committed to a common thematic career pathway, providing enhanced learning support structures and teacher teaming for enhanced instructional methods and student achievement outcomes.

Grant funds of $12,000 are included in the divisional special revenue/federal program budgets for Matchmaker grant ($5,000) - Projects 1142 and 1144, SUCCEED Florida ($3,000) - Project 0138, and Smaller Learning Communities ($4,000) - Project 0533.
EVALUATION
Performance evaluation measures are determined by the U.S. Department of Education for the Smaller Learning Community grant, and the Florida Department of Education for the Matchmaker and SUCCEED Florida grants. The annual performance reports will be completed by December 2007. The results will be shared with all stakeholders.
