Adoption of Proclamation for Stewart Middle Magnet School "Space Day 2007" - Theme: “50 Years in Space and Still Having A Blast” (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Stewart Middle Magnet School for Math, Science, and Technology designated May 3, 2007, as Space Day in conjunction with the national Space Day educational initiative supported by the National Aeronautical and Space Administration. Attached is a proclamation for Space Day 2007 for Stewart to promote education in math, science, technology, and engineering and salute the space pioneers for their extraordinary achievements in the exploration of space and the application of space technology for the advancement of science, medicine, and life on earth. Stewart Middle Magnet School is the only magnet school on Florida’s west coast with the theme of Aerospace and Aviation.

On Space Day each year, Stewart Middle Magnet School students, teachers, and guests pay tribute to the courage and heroism of those who “reach for the stars.”

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 1 - The percentage of students scoring at Level 3 or higher on FCAT reading will increase a minimum of 5 percentage points.
Goal 2 - The percentage of students scoring at Level 3 or higher on FCAT mathematics will increase a minimum of 5 percentage points.
Goal 3 - Student performance on FCAT science will increase a minimum of 5 percentage points.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: No)

Stewart Middle Magnet School programs are budgeted and funded in the district approved budget. Activities associated with Space Day 2007 are included in the approved budget.
