Approve Agreement for Technical Services with Elizabeth Glenn to Develop an Online Course for Elementary Mathematics - $1,500 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

We are requesting approval of the Agreement for Technical Services with Elizabeth Glenn, a retired district resource teacher, to develop a 36-hour online course incorporating online communication, video lesson study, and print media. The content of the course will focus on Geometry and Measurement concepts as they are defined by our newly revised Mathematics Sunshine State Standards. Her responsibilities include the following:

• Research professional journals and professional books to identify key articles/chapters to be read, reviewed, and critiqued by participants. Through the discussion, mathematics will be highlighted and effective teaching strategies will be given to participants to incorporate in their classrooms.
• Create assignments for participants based on articles identified to enhance teacher's understanding of geometric concepts taught in the elementary grades. These tasks will allow teachers to discuss misconceptions in the mathematics taught.
• Create a template for the distribution of content to teachers as well as the collection of the responses given by teachers. The product developed will be in digital and hard copy so the course can be replicated in the future.

Goal 2 - The percentage of students scoring at Level 3 or higher on FCAT mathematics will increase a minimum of 5 percentage points.

Funds of $1,500 are included in the departmental budget for Elementary Education, Project 6064.

May 2008. 2008 FCAT mathematics scores for students of participants will be analyzed to determine effectiveness of training.
