Approve the Naming and Dedication of the Media Center at Town and Country Elementary School in Honor of the Late Barbara Ziehl Santana

The staff, community members, and students of Town and Country Elementary School have requested that the media center be named and dedicated in honor of the late Barbara Ziehl Santana.

Barbara Ziehl Santana served the Hillsborough County School System for 28 years as a teacher, curriculum specialist and principal. She was appointed Principal of Town and Country Elementary School on January 9, 1985 and served in that position until her sudden illness and ultimate retirement in 1995. She instilled a love of reading and learning with the students and staff. Her diligent efforts to provide the latest technology for students and staff helped to establish a computer lab in the media center. The staff, community members, and students would like to celebrate and honor her tireless dedication to nurturing both students and staff during her tenure at Town and Country Elementary School.

This is in accordance with Policy 8.27 (Procedure Summary) which governs that school sites and facilities shall be named for individuals who have rendered outstanding public service to public education, for geographical locations and for groups and clubs as indicated. Elementary, middle and secondary schools – for presidents, school board members, educators, outstanding citizens and geographical locations.

There is no cost to the school district.
