Approve Contract with Homebuilder’s Institute (HBI)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Home Builder’s Institute (HBI), the workforce development arm of the National Association of Home Builders, contracts with the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) to provide Project CRAFT (Community, Restitution, and Apprenticeship-Focused Training), an aftercare program for up to 20 juveniles under DJJ supervision in Hillsborough County. Project CRAFT provides vocational training in construction trades, case management and job placement services to participating students. The School Board must provide educational services to these clients and does so through the provision of one Adult Education teacher.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)
The costs of the Adult Education teacher (approximately $54,828) and any ancillary support services are covered by Workforce Development funds earned by students enrolled in this program. This item is included in the Part 1 budget for 2007-2008.
EVALUATION
This program is not eligible for a quality assurance review conducted by the Juvenile Justice Educational Enhancement Program (JJEEP). A similar comprehensive evaluation of all aspects of the educational program will be implemented by District staff. This evaluation will be completed by June 30, 2008.
