SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Continuation Grant Application to the Florida Department of Education, and if Approved, Accept Funds for ADULT EDUCATION AND FAMILY LITERACY STATE LEADERSHIP, ADULT GENERAL EDUCATION, 2007/2008 - $200,000 (Adult and Community Education)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We are requesting approval to submit the continuation grant application for the funding of the statewide General Educational Development (GED) Practitioner Task Force (PTF) for $200,000 for the period July 1, 2007, through June 30, 2008.

The DOE has encouraged our district to apply and continue to be the fiscal agent for this PTF, taking the lead in the development of updated GED curriculum frameworks and associated resource materials, updated technical assistance papers, identification of necessary teacher training and staff development in GED Prep programs, and research ideas for improvement of GED completions and post-GED transitions to postsecondary programs and/or gainful employment.

This GED/PTF task force will be comprised of representatives from state Adult Education programs, Florida Department of Education (DOE), Adult and Community Education (ACE) of Florida, regional training councils, regional and state literacy resource centers, and the Florida Adult and Technical Distance Education consortium (FATDEC).

Attached is a summary of educational services provided and the budget for utilization of grant funds.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 5 - Critical Success Factor 3 - Design and implement program scheduling to meet the remediation and enrichment needs of students.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

If approved, grant funds of $200,000 will be included in the divisional special revenue/federal programs budget. All direct and indirect costs are included in the grant budget.

EVALUATION

Performance evaluation measures are determined by the Florida Department of Education. The completed annual state performance report will be completed in December 2008. The results of the evaluation will be shared with all stakeholders.
