Approve Agreement for Technical Services with Los Angeles County Office of Education to Provide a Train-the-Trainer on Teacher Expectations and Student Achievement (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)

Dr. Anita Miller of the Los Angeles County Office of Education will deliver a Train-the-Trainer on Teacher Expectations and Student Achievement (TESA) to a selected group of 20 trainers. TESA is a behavioral change staff development program for educators in all grade levels and subject areas. In the training, participants learn 15 interactions designed to encourage equitable interactions with all students. TESA is designed to modify the way teachers interact with their students through heightened awareness of how perceptions affect their expectations. Results of classroom research show that the use of TESA interactions improve student achievement, gender and diversity awareness, classroom climate, and reduce student discipline problems. The participants in this Train-the-Trainer will deliver this course for Title I Staff Development. In addition, this course will be offered as part of the Title I Training Strand and will be available to any teacher who is currently working in a Title I school.

Goal 5- The District will eliminate the FCAT achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind.

This project is supported by the Title 1 budget in the amount of $6,700.

Anticipated by July 24, 2007, all participants will complete an opinionnaire designed to measure the quality of the training provided by Dr. Miller of the Los Angeles County Office of Education.
