SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Submission of Nine Grant Applications to the Florida Department of Education, and if Approved, Accept Funds for Workforce Education SUCCEED Florida Grants, 2007/2008 - Up to $2,250,000 (Adult Technical Education)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We are requesting approval to submit applications for nine 2007/2008 SUCCEED Florida Grant applications to expand the workforce in critical occupational areas. Applications will be submitted for the following workforce education programs.
Aparicio-Levy Technical Center:
  • Aviation Maintenance Technology
  • Phlebotomy
  • Related Industrial Technology


    • Brewster Technical Center:
  • Automotive Service Technology
  • Major Appliance and Refrigeration Repair
  • Pharmacy Technician


    • Erwin Technical Center:
  • Automotive Service Technology
  • Dental Assisting


    • Learey Technical Center:
  • Patient Care Technician

    •  School district adult technical centers are eligible to apply for SUCCEED Florida grants in the areas of Automotive, Manufacturing, Aerospace, and Allied Health. Adult Technical Education programs are continually revised to respond to economic development needs such as critical workforce shortage areas.

    ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

    FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

    If approved, and all twelve applications are awarded at the maximum amount of $250,000 each, grant funds of up to $2,250,000 will be included in the divisional special revenue/federal programs budget.

    EVALUATION

    Evaluation will be based on award of the grants and subsequent program development or expansion. Expenditure of funds and student enrollment will be reported to the Department of Education periodically throughout the year.
