Approve Renewal Agreement for Technical Services with Lucinda Collins to Produce Braille Textbooks, Visually Impaired Grant - $35,000 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We request approval of the renewal Agreement for Technical Services with Lucinda Collins to transcribe state-adopted textbooks and workbooks for students requiring Braille. The consultant is certified by the Library of Congress and has the necessary knowledge and experience with the Literary Braille Code and with “Braille Formats: Principles of Print to Braille Transcription, 1997.”

The consultant has successfully performed these Braille transcription functions to the satisfaction of Florida’s blind students, their teachers, and their school districts for four years.

Funded by the Florida Department of Education, the District serves as the fiscal agent. The Florida Instructional Materials Center for the Visually Impaired (FIMC-VI) is charged with providing statewide materials’ services to Florida school districts.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 1 – The percentage of students scoring at Level 3 or higher on FCAT reading will increase a minimum of 5 percentage points.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

Funds of $35,000 are included in divisional special revenue/federal programs budget, Project 1317, Florida Instructional Materials Center for the Visually Impaired.
