SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Standard Contract with the State of Florida, Department of Health, for Participation in the STEPS to a Healthier Hillsborough Grant Initiative (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This is the fourth year of a five year grant. It is designed to address the issues of asthma, diabetes, obesity, nutrition, physical activity, and tobacco with under served populations. Submitted through the Hillsborough County Health Department, it is highly collaborative and provides support for intervention activities within the school system. The District will receive $269,961.30 from the Hillsborough County Health Department to support two staff members, health education, and staff wellness activities.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 5 – The District will eliminate the FCAT achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

STEPS grant dollars $269,961.30 are allocated through the Center for Disease Control and are contracted through the Hillsborough County Health Department. The Health Department subcontracts to the School District.

EVALUATION

The STEPS grant evaluation is done annually. The next evaluation will be conducted 12/11/07. Past grant evaluations are on file at the Hillsborough County Health Department.
