Approve Agreements for Technical Services for Elementary Mathematics Trainers, 2007/2008 - $189,000 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

We request approval of the attached listing of trainers who will plan, conduct, and provide follow-up support for elementary mathematics teachers at various locations throughout the District beginning September 7, 2007, through June 30, 2008.

The District is committed to providing training for teachers to enhance their content and pedagogy knowledge in the area of mathematics to impact student achievement and provide strategies to improve students’ reading skills and comprehension while integrating with mathematics content. Each training offered will serve a minimum of 40 teachers per session.

Courses to be offered include:

• M.Y.T.E.* Math for Kindergarten, Primary or Intermediate teachers
• Hands-On Equations for Grades 3 - 5 teachers
• Voyages for Kindergarten, Primary or Intermediate teachers
• M.Y.T.E.* Math+ Content for Kindergarten, Primary or Intermediate teachers
• M.Y.T.E.* Math+ Literature for K-5 teachers
• Writing & Math for K-5 teachers
• Alternative Algorithms for K-5 teachers
• Differentiated Instruction for Primary or Intermediate
• Basic Facts

In order to effectively provide training, permission is requested to add and/or delete facilitators as needed, not to exceed the budget of $189,000.

Goal 5 – The District will close the FCAT achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind.

Funds of $189,000 for Elementary Training are included as follows: divisional budget for Elementary Title II ($54,500), Project 1380; Elementary Title I ($54,500), Project 1295; and Elementary Mathematics Metro Math Royalties ($80,000), Project 4412.

The Department of Staff Development will conduct teacher evaluation surveys at the conclusion of each training.
