SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Continuation Grant Application to the Florida Department of Education, Division of Community Colleges and Workforce Education, and if approved, accept funding for Adult Education and Family Literacy Corrections Programs, 2005-2006 - $75,000 (Adult and Community Education)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Florida Department of Education, Division of Community Colleges and Workforce Education, has issued a request for applications to continue supplemental funding from July 1, 2005, to June 30, 2006, for Adult Education and Family Literacy Corrections programs. The targeted population consists of incarcerated adults in a correctional institution or other such institutions who are likely to leave the institution within 5 years, are 16 years of age or older, beyond compulsory school age, do not have a secondary school diploma, and are not enrolled in a secondary school.

Attached is a summary of the educational program for incarcerated adults and utilization of grant funds.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

If approved grant funds of $75,000 will be included in the divisional special revenue/federal programs budget. Indirect cost is included in the grant application.
