Approval of Charter School Contract for Kid's Community College

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Charter School Legislation permits individuals, organizations, and community members the opportunity to submit an application to the School Board for creation of a charter school. On November 16, 2004, the School Board approved the charter application for Kid’s Community College. A summary description of the school is attached.

Also attached is a copy of the proposed charter contract for the school. The charter application approved by the School Board will become Appendix I of this contract. In the event there is a discrepancy between the contract and the application, terms of the contract will prevail. The length of the contract is three years with provisions for renewal at the end of the term.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 6 - All schools in the district will be assigned a state grade of A, B, or C.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

The charter school’s projected enrollment will generate approximately $195,865 in FEFP funds. The school district retains five percent ($9,793) of FEFP funds to offset services provided by the district. They also receive capital outlay funds and grant funds awarded by the Florida Department of Education. Costs associated with the development of the contract include district staff time and attorney fees.
