Recognition of the Palm Harbor Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Competition - First Place Winner (Middle School Education)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Palm Harbor Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Competition was held January 30, 2010. The seventh grade team from Stewart Middle Magnet School placed first in the Algebra 1 division. They are James Garrett, Alex Harris, John Houston, and Keon Sahebkar. The coaches are Bruce Neuman, parent at Stewart Middle School, and Kim Woolfenden, mathematics teacher at Tampa Bay Tech High School.

Mu Alpha Theta is a national mathematics club for honors students. Their mission is “dedicated to engendering keener interest in mathematics, the development of sound scholarship in the subject, and promoting the enjoyment of mathematics among high school and junior college students.” Students compete individually and in teams in the high school course in which they are enrolled.
