Approve Renewal Partnership Agreement with the Tampa Housing Authority for Job Skills Training, 2010/2011 (Adult Technical Education)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We request approval of the renewal partnership agreement with the Tampa Housing Authority (THA) to provide student sponsorships for workforce training programs in computer and employability skills. The district will continue to provide educational training programs for the THA public housing residents, helping them to become self-sufficient by gaining job skills through participation in workforce education programs delivered by the district’s adult technical centers.

Tampa Housing Authority will continue to refer its residents for a Workplace Essentials class composed of basic computer skills and employability skills; for assessments and remediation; and for job preparatory skills training at Aparicio-Levy, Brewster, Erwin, and Learey Technical Centers. The district has had a partnership agreement with THA since 1998.

The Tampa Housing Authority will continue to sponsor the cost of training for participants to include career assessment, tuition, books, and fees.
