Adoption of Proclamation for Stewart Middle Magnet School Designating May 5, 2010, as Space Day, Theme: Exploration and Discovery (Magnet Schools-Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The National Aeronautical and Space Administration educational initiative has designated May 5, 2010, as Space Day. In conjunction with this initiative, Stewart Middle Magnet School for Math, Science and Technology also proclaims May 5, 2010, as Space Day, Theme: Exploration and Discovery. Stewart Middle Magnet School is the only magnet school on Florida’s west coast with the theme of Aerospace and Aviation. Attached is a proclamation that on Space Day 2010, Stewart will promote education in math, science, technology, and engineering and will salute the space pioneers for their extraordinary achievements in the exploration of space and the application of space technology for the advancement of science, medicine, and life on earth. During Space Day 2010 students, teachers, and guests will pay tribute to the courage and heroism of those who “reach for the stars.”

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

Stewart Middle Magnet School programs are budgeted and funded in the district approved budget. There is no additional cost for adoption of this proclamation. Activities associated with Space Day 2010 are included in the approved budget.
