Recognition of Middle School Student Participation at the 2010 State Level Competition of the National Geography Bee (Middle School Education-Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

By winning their school’s Geography Bee and taking a qualifying test, an unprecedented eight Hillsborough County middle school students qualified as part of 100 semifinalists for the state level competition of the National Geography Bee. The following students participated:

  • Rohith Ravi, Bartels Middle
  • James Collins-Hahn, Benito Middle
  • Jarrod Nobel, Burns Middle
  • Logan Vaughan, Farnell Middle
  • Mathew Tatum, Rampello K-8 School
  • Tucker Verdi, Randall Middle
  • Kelly Cochran, Walker Middle
  • Ronit Dastidar, Williams Middle Magnet

Rohith Ravi, a seventh grader from Bartels Middle School, was the official runner-up, and Mathew Tatum, a seventh grader from Rampello K-8 School, placed fifth in the state. The Florida Geography Bee was held on April 9, 2010, in Jacksonville, Florida.
