SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Implement College Bound Program Developed by Great Schools Organization at Selected School Sites.(Student Services and Federal Programs Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

In an effort to increase educational opportunities for parents, selected schools will make parents aware of the College Bound program developed by the Great Schools organization. The organization has received a multi-year grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to research, develop, and implement a parental involvement program.

The program utilizes online lessons and a social networking platform to engage parents in a variety of lessons intended to increase the capacity of parents to support their child’s education. The program is customized by grade level and available in English and Spanish. Access to the College Bound program is provided at no cost to the district for a three year period. The school district is under no obligation to promote or support the College Bound program beyond the three year period.

* Increase promotion rates at all grade levels and the percentage of high school graduates

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: No)

There is no financial impact to the school district. The program will be provided to Hillsborough County Public Schools at no cost.

EVALUATION

The program's impact will be evaluated. The district will provide feedback to the Great Schools organization so they can improve the program to better meet the needs of families.
