Approve the Administrative Appointment of Chief Facilities Officer (Facilities Division).

It is recommended that Mrs. Cathy L. Valdes be appointed as Chief Facilities Officer, effective May 31, 2010.

Mrs. Valdes began her employment with Hillsborough County Public Schools in August 1972, as a teacher at Thonotosassa Elementary School. She has served the district as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, area director, and from July 2005 to March 2010, as the Chief Facilities Officer.

As Chief Facilities Officer, Mrs. Valdes was in charge of new construction, maintenance, custodial operations, sites and growth management. The restructuring of the Facilities Division is ongoing and needs to be completed in a timely fashion. Additionally, the Transportation Department will be moved from the Information and Technology Division to the Facilities Division. This will facilitate additional reorganizations between the Facilities' departments. The Transportation Department is also in the middle of a major restructuring project, which will take considerable time to complete.

The district's established procedure allows for the return of any administrator, recommended by the Superintendent, at Level I of the current salary schedule.

The determination to extend the contract for this position will be conducted on an annual basis.
